I'm not sure what my hesitancy was, perhaps it was simply that I was sure I'd end up quitting the whole book blogging scene. I've not been great about staying committed to things in the past, but aside from the "minor" setbacks in June and July - plagiarizers - I've been super happy reading and reviewing books and meeting the amazing people I've met.
I'm not one to get tied down to places - I move all the time - although I am committed to the people in my life. But I knew from my non-book related blog that it took time to produce a single post, and so I wasn't sure how long I'd keep things up.
Well, I have stuck with it now since last November. My early attempt in May/June 2010 were a flop. But I haven't missed a day for my posts since my official launch date of November 9. For me, well, that's a feat.
So, I've noticed that almost every blogger I deal with - especially those I trade with - have business cards. Although I'm an adult, and in my working life I have business cards, I keep thinking of having a business card as a grown up thing and I don't really see myself as completely grown up, though I'm well past the age of consent.
But, I finally decided it's time. It's important to have a calling card to leave behind. And while I've designed business cards for myself in the past, just for fun, I decided to leave the design up to someone else. To see if they could "get" me and maybe create something for me that I would never have thought of on my own.
I didn't go to design school, I just know what I like. Pretty much instantaneously.
Well, I handed over the decision-making process to Rachel at Parajunkee Design, who had one of the first blogs I discovered when I first began book blogging (Parajunkee.com) and gave her my site name, mentioned I liked things fairly simple, and let her do her magic.
Well, she came up with a number of amazing designs for "fiktshun" for the cards and although there were a few that I loved, one being so amazing and dramatic, it was the way she created "fiktshun" in the above image that I gravitated toward.
It was so totally me. It was a me that I didn't even realize was me until I saw it. I completely fell in love.
I could have used my current logo design to use on the business cards, and while I love it, I knew that it was a temporary fix. You see, I fall in love with fonts. I buy fonts all the time - and FG Bethany was one that I adored. (Just bought this great font called Ruelles which I stuck in my Shattered Souls review.) Plus I love Photoshop. So in less than 5 minutes I came up with that logo.
But for cards I wanted something that I knew took some thought, creativity and effort. And that's just not something I have these days. (Well, time that is. I still hope I have some creativity!)
Of course, while stalking the design site I also decided to have some bookmarks created - I do enough giveaways - and a blog button (shown above). While I love my purple flower, not everyone wants a pretty purple flower on their site. I wanted to give another option.
I absolutely love this blog button, which is similar to one side of my bookmarks. It's got my new "fiktshun" name and the purple elements and book from the bookmarks.
Of course, as some of you may know, I can't just stop at one thing. And so I decided to change up the logo on the blog to match the cards. Once that goes live, I'll announce that on the main blog. And I am in the process of also designing a bunch of badges for my posts.
You see, I'm all about consistency. I want to have a finished look. And while I love the free images from Word I'd much prefer something that is customized for me. So, hopefully soon, Random Thoughts, Book Buzz, My Reading Pile, etc. will have some new looks, too.
While I feel sad in some ways to be handing over a part of my design to someone else, I'm thrilled at the fact that I'm actually investing in something I'm passionate about - my blog.
So, I can't wait until all the new designs are completed. I'm not sure when that will be, but when they are, I'll be sure to share them all with you!
And if I don't stay away from that site, I'll just keep adding these a la carte items to the pile, which won't be ideal. Because unless I get an entire site designed from point a to z it will look like a strange amalgam of designed and unfinished. Got to remember that balance.... I don't want to end up with this oddly eclectic looking blog due to my "can't stop now" mentality!
Anyway, this was a super long ramble and I should have had this on the main blog, but oh well...

My Many Overtrades
Every once in awhile I trade for books that I already have traded for.
When I first began trading I didn't write down what was being traded and so when I eventually received the books, which is sometimes months later, I discover I have duplicates.
While it's generally limited to two copies, I've sometimes traded for more. Sometimes on purpose, many times by mistake.
Only once or twice did I finally say "stop" after having multiples sent my way.
Things are more complicated now because I'm getting books from the publisher, which I don't always know about when I arrange the trade and so I can't possibly back out.
But here are a few of my many overtrades (fortunately some I haven't received so was happy to have done dupli-trading):
1. Eve by Anna Carey - 3 copies
2. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - 5 copies
3. Sweet Venom by Tera Lyn Childs - 3 copies
4. Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday - 4 copies
5. Dead Rules by Randy Russell - 2 copies
6. All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin - 3 copies
7. Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon - 3 copies (was offered more)
8. The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson - 2 copies
9.Illusions by Aprilynne Pike - 2 copies
10. Legacy by Cayla Kluver - 2 copies
11. Fury by Elizabeth Miles - 2 copies
12. Supernaturally by Kiersten White - 2 copies
13. The Beginning of After by Jennifer Castle - 2 copies
14. The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson - 2 copies
15. My One and Only by Beth Kephart - 2 copies
Of course I would love to get my hands on another copy of Fateful by Claudia Gray and If I Die by Rachel Vincent as I know a few people who would love a copy and not have to wait for release date. But I can't be greedy, especially as I already have way more books to be read than I can possibly hope to read...
And I have only one book I am DYING to get my hands on. If you know me, you could probably guess. If you don't, well...

Quickie Giveaway: Wildefire
As visitors of the main blog know, I got a surprise copy of Wildefire signed to me from a friend who attended the author's signing in NYC. I've been sitting here with my original unsigned copy on my shelf. It is unread, and in what I consider "perfect" condition. The signed copy has some dents but that's because it flew across the country via U.S. mail.
I have been very tempted to keep both copies. But it goes against my policy, so sadly I will say goodbye... *sniff, sniff, sob.*
So anyway, I thought I'd give away the unsigned copy, along with my one and only spare Wildefire bookmark - also unsigned. But still, it's really, really cool!
The deets:
1. Only 1 entry per person
2. You must be 13 or order to enter
3. Giveaway is International
4. Contest ends on August 20th at 11:59 p.m.
5. Winner will be chosen by Random because I can't find my hat.
No hoops, as usual. Though I am still contemplating having a "show me your hoop" giveaway...
To enter, fill out the form, below:
Thanks to everyone who entered my Wildefire giveaway. The giveaway is now closed. I will be running the names through Random shortly and announcing the winner here. Stay tuned...
And the winner is...
Congratulations Ashley! I've sent you an email for your details. You will have 48 hours to send on your information or I will be forced to choose another winner.
Thanks everyone for entering the giveaway. I'm sure I'll have another book or two on my shelf that must be given away in the very near future...

Giveaway: An Item from The Mortal Portal
As one or two of you may know, I'm a huge fan of Leah Clifford's A Touch Mortal series and am dying to get my hands on A Touch Morbid.
I've never bought book-related merch before, but when The Mortal Portal went live I couldn't help myself and may have bought a few coasters, mugs and a mouse pad.
As awesome as the T-shirts and stuff are, I did not want to see the eye rolls from my guy - I got enough when I got the other stuff - and I could seriously see him crossing the street rather than walking next to me if I was wearing any of the shirts, though the skull one is really, really tempting.
He's already questioning the green highlights...and no I seriously didn't do that to match my avatar. Seriously... and I'll probably change them to red around the holidays....

Anyway, enough rambling.
I would have put this on the main blog but I already have a couple giveaways on there for books, so I'm sticking it on the Annex.
I absolutely adore this stuff and after having it arrive in great condition and testing it out...
yes that may be hot chocolate...
I had to do a giveaway, because, well, who doesn't want what amounts to some seriously awesome swag!
What's up for grabs:
The deets:
You do not have to name your picks now. Once I announce the winner they will have time to email me their choices.
To enter, fill out the form below:
The contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered. I'll be adding up the entries and running the names through Random in the morning and announcing the winner here on the blog and contacting them by email for their selections.
Good luck everyone!
Random has spoken and the winner is...
Congratulations Alba! Random finally likes you. :) You are the winner of my Mortal Portal Giveaway.
I'll email you so you can send me your selections from the store that amount to $25 USD and I'll order those immediately.
Thanks again to everybody who entered!

Random ARCs and finished books to give away {3}
Okay, so I think all these are ARCs, but I don't feel like changing the name of my post. As I mentioned the last couple of times, I do a lot of trades with other bloggers. And sometimes I don't get the books before release date, so I end up reading the finished copy. Sometimes I trade for more than one copy. Sometimes I just don't get to read the ARC and after too long a time period it just makes sense to read the finished copy I've purchased instead.
My book tower is still overcrowded so I'm giving away these six ARCs that I received from trades that I NEVER READ in ARC format. I own all of these in eBook format and the one that's not yet released I have on pre-order, so off they go.
Please choose three books, though each winner will get two - it's all I can squeeze into the envelopes I have. I will try to pick winners from a combination of first-come-first-served and Random so that three winners will each get two books of their choice.
Here's the list, in case the picture is too blurry - I'm really terrible at taking these pictures:
1. Legacy ARC by Cayla Kluver
2. Small Town Sinners ARC by Melissa Walker
3. Nocturne ARC by Christine Johnson (I am seriously bummed that I didn't get to this in time!)
4. The Implosion of Aggie Winchester ARC by Lara Zeilin
5. Dark Souls ARC by Paula Morris
6. Vicious Little Darlings ARC by Katherine Easer
Fortunately (for me) I don't have too many left on the shelf. I've been trying not to over-trade, and also to get rid of books before release rather than after release if I know I can't read them.
Winners will be contacted by email.
Up for Grabs ends Thursday at 8 p.m. Pacific time.
UPDATE: Forgot to mention, this IS International!
Contest is now closed. I'll be announcing the winners shortly...
Okay, so the winners are....
AmyS. for Small Town Sinners and Legacy
blackplume for The Implosion of Aggie Winchester and Nocturne
savanna ucinski for Vicious Little Darlings and Dark Souls
Congratulations to the winners. I will be emailing you to get your details!

Quickie Giveaway: The Near Witch + Signed bookmark
I may have received an extra print copy of The Near Witch.... And so I thought I'd give it away - this is an unread hardcover copy - along with a signed The Near Witch bookmark.

2. Giveaway is International.
3. One entry per person.
4. To enter just leave a comment with a way to get in touch with you - email or twitter is fine.
5. Ends tonight, August 16th, at midnight. If I get the winner's deets quickly I'll send out the book tomorrow by U.S. mail.
No follow, tweet or any hoops. If you'd like to spread the word that's fine, if not, that's fine too! I just want to share this book that I accidentally got a second copy of, with someone who'd like to read it.
UPDATE: I'll be running the names through Random to choose the winner unless there are 20 or fewer entries!

The YA Crush Tourney has ended - Giveaway wrap-up
Well, early this morning marked the end of the YA Crush Tourney hosted by The YA Sisterhood blog. Thanks to the bloggers behind the blog who made this past few weeks super exciting!
Shade and Shift giveaway:
Yesterday, during Zachary Moore's final match I promised to give away two sets of the Shade series if Zach won the tournament to anyone who voted for Zach and left a comment on my post, HERE.
Zach did not win, but during the frenzy I said that I would give away one set to one winner if he reached 10,000 votes. Well he did! And so, if you did vote and haven't yet left a comment, there is still time to enter. Just head back to the original post, linked above, and leave your comment, which will be your entry.
Oh, and did I forget to mention it? The set of books will be SIGNED! Yes, Constellation Books has confirmed that they will have a signed set of the books in hardcover on Friday and that author Jeri Smith-Ready will go back to the store to sign them!
So, I'm keeping the giveaway open until then.
Lola and the Boy Next Door giveaway:
Also during the tournament I said that if Zach won I'd give away my ARC of Lola and the Boy Next Door. Well, sadly, once again, he didn't win, but I've decided to give it away anyway. But I've opened it up to anyone who participated at any point in the YA Crush Tourney. For details and to enter, CLICK HERE to be taken to the original post.
And last, but very not least...
I am getting another signed set of Shade and Shift, which I will give away as soon as I get them to anyone who participated in the tournament, even if they didn't vote Zach! Who knows, for next year's tournament, Zach could go all the way, why not get the chance to meet him now. Details to come in the next week or so.

The YA Crush Tourney: Underdogs Unite for Team Ash
Today's match-up for the YA Crush Tourney is going to be epic. The battle pits Ash from Julie Kagawa's The Iron Fey series and Jace from Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series.
As you can tell from the picture above, I have chosen sides in this battle. And I choose Team Ash. Aside from the fact that he is being represented by Jaime and Patricia of Two Chicks on Books, he is also considered the underdog in this match and I'm all about supporting the underdog.
Now, this is not to say that I don't like Jace. Believe me, I do. He is probably one of my favorite male mains in one of my very favorite series.
But there is just something about the Prince of the Winter Court - and I haven't even read The Iron Knight!
Plus, what an interesting match the final will make if it were Team Kilt vs. Team Ash. We'd have two underdogs battling it out.
So, while I no longer have a vested interest in the tournament, and I have family visiting from out of town so can't be as active as I'd like, I will definitely be throwing all my support to Ash, Jaime and Patricia.
And now that Tod's no longer in the running for most crush-worthy, if you'd still like to be a part of the tournament and support a great character and the author behind the character, help support Ash by voting, Tweeting, posting the tournament on Facebook and get behind the underdog.
Because as awesome as Jace Wayland is - and don't think he doesn't know it - we can't let him steamroll another contender in this event. Let's not only try to keep this close, let's try for the win. And Ash is so totally WIN.
Voting will be live for 24 hours, starting at 8 a.m. Central, U.S. on the YA Sisterhood's blog, linked below.

Winners: Tod's Legions Twitter and Facebook giveaway
Thanks again to everyone who voted and who entered the giveaway I had on Twitter and Facebook for Tod's Legions.
Sorry for not getting the winners posted last night, but even though I didn't get to sleep until three in the morning I didn't have the ability to type, let alone choose names from a hat.
So this afternoon - I wrote out the names and popped them into my trusty hat, and drew three winners...
And they are - Yourstoryya (Twitter), Deann (Facebook) and Misty (Facebook).
If you are a winner, please email or DM me your details! fiktshun[at]gmail[dot]com.
Congratulations and I'll be ordering the books from Amazon today. If you are international it may take time to get them and if you are US you should have them by Tuesday if they're still in stock! I've ordered a few sets over the past month...
And even though we didn't win and I won't be having my If I Die pre-order giveaway, you can bet that I will be having one in September on the main blog, closer to release date.

The YA Crush Tourney: A Thank You to Tod's Legions
I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this run in the YA Crush Tourney a huge success. We had a great run. I mean, making it to the Fine Four is pretty amazing. Especially when all the awesomeness that is Tod hasn't even been revealed yet in the series.
Just you wait for If I Die! And that's all I will say about it until closer to release date.
But for everyone who cast their votes, Tweeted, shared the links on Facebook and put up with me insanely messing with their Twitter timelines for 24 hours, thank you so much.
I'm sorry we couldn't pull of the win to get to the next round of the tournament. We actually went down in the last minute of voting. I think it came down to 51 votes. Talk about close, with both teams over 5,100 votes!
There were some really dedicated fans on Team Kilt who actually got 800 votes in the last forty minutes. Talk about formidable! By the end I was running on fumes.
If they end up battling Jace in the final match I will be throwing all my support their way and hope that Tod's Legions will help them, too. Underdogs unite! Team Tod couldn't have lost to a nicer author than Jeri Smith-Ready or a greater team of advocates than Team Kilt.
Although if it's an Ash v. Zach match in the finals I must throw my support to Jaime and Patricia of Two Chicks on Books and their character from The Iron Fey series. I'm nothing if not loyal and Jaime and Patricia are two really great bloggers whom I think of as friends.
This was such a fun event. If I hadn't been stalking Twitter in the early hours, I might never have heard about it and I'm so glad I did. Yes, it was exhausting and my posting and reading schedule during the past few weeks was thrown for a loop, but it was absolutely worth it.
I got a chance to meet some really great people and got to know some other Tod fans who are just as enthusiastic about that reaper as I am! I had a chance to meet Tod, which I never in my entire life thought I'd have the opportunity to do. I was able to interact with one of my favorite authors, Rachel Vincent, who was nothing less than spectacular for helping to support this event and her character, taking time away from writing her next book - which is much anticipated!
I learned that there are some amazing authors out there who are extra supportive of their characters and who will jump in to help them out when things are looking pretty grim. Those that will go the extra mile - by giving the fans all sorts of wonderful extras and just taking the time to be involved. Authors are my rock stars, and just seeing them talking with the fans was a completely surreal experience.
I think the award for the most hands-on has to go to my competitor's creator, Jeri Smith-Ready, who was up, like me, Tweeting on behalf of her boy Zach until the wee hours of the morning. Her involvement, I know, was what got her character who was ranked 25, to the finals. What a well-deserved win!
And my biggest thanks goes out to all of you who supported Tod. Who believed in him, even if not all of you knew him before this event and who took me at my word and my many, many posts and tweets, that Tod was crush-worthy.
You took this event from just a fun distraction to an absolutely spectacular and thrilling endeavor. YOU ARE TOTALLY AWESOME!
So thanks most of all to YOU and to Tod's brilliant creator Rachel Vincent for one heck of a ride.
If I'm not as vocal it's only because my family is visiting and as I always say, family first. But it would be great if you would help out to show your support for the remaining teams and the wonderful bloggers behind The YA Sisterhood blog.

And just because Tod's out, doesn't mean I won't do my best to support the remaining teams in the tournament. As I said above, I will be rooting for my friends on Team Ash on Monday and if they don't make it through to Wednesday's final, then I will be throwing my support to Team Kilt.If I'm not as vocal it's only because my family is visiting and as I always say, family first. But it would be great if you would help out to show your support for the remaining teams and the wonderful bloggers behind The YA Sisterhood blog.

You Reap What You Sow...
...and I SOOOOO want this Reaper!
(Okay, I know that was kind of cheesy, but I just couldn't resist. Do you realize how few reaper sayings there are?)
Well, it's that time again. What time might that be, you ask? As if you didn't already know, it's time to...
Yep, Tod's up again in his fourth match against the incredibly crush-worthy Zachary Moore from the super talented and amazing Jeri Smith-Ready's Shade series.
From all my praise you might think I'm suggesting you vote Zach. And noo. Not at all. While I love Shade and Shift I'm a Logan fan all the way. Now that's not to say that Zach isn't crush-worthy, but I'll leave that up to his advocate to try and convince you.
My goal is to convince you to vote for Tod Hudson so that he can make it to the finals against the winner of the Ash vs. Jace match.
Although, if you haven't met Tod by now, what are you waiting for? He's a whole lot of sexy, a ton of fun, and he can take you anywhere in this world and the Netherworld in an instant. Traveling by Reaper is the next big thing and travel by Tod is absolutely heavenly.
If you haven't had a chance to read a little bit more about Tod, feel free to check out two of my earlier posts on the main blog:
Don't Fear the Reaper - to get a few quick facts about our favorite Reaper.
Everyone Dances with the Reaper - to see my top 10 favorite sarcastic Tod quotes. Are they yours?
And, if that isn't enough...
I had the privilege of interviewing Tod yesterday and that post is up on the main blog, along with my review (spoiler-free) of the next book in the Soul Screamers series, If I Die.
But if you already know Tod Hudson and need no further reason to cast your vote, or two, or three... be sure to head over to the YA Sisterhood' blog and show your support and...
If you are on Twitter be sure to add the Hash Tag #TodsLegions to your Tweets and there might just be a surprise for one or two of you if Tod makes it to the finals.
If you're on Facebook, show your support by linking to The YA Sisterhood's blog so others can vote for Tod.
And to all of you who have shown your support and have spread the word, thank you so much. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it. And I know that Tod does, too!

The YA Crush Tourney: Ash heats up the Winter Court
As Network Solutions in their infinite wisdom decided to do maintenance at 8 p.m. I've temporarily re-posted this here by special request and so that the votes can still be cast for Ash...
Today on the YA Crush Tourney, hosted by The YA Sisterhood’s blog, is one of the most heated matches to-date.
On the one side we have Ash, Prince of the Winter Court, from Julie Kagawa’s The Iron Fey series. And on the other we have Patch, a fallen angel seeking redemption, from Becca Fitzpatrick’s Hush, Hush series.
Both of these boys are well-deserving of their spot in this tournament. But, I will admit, for purposes of this match, that I have chosen sides. I’m throwing all my support behind TEAM ASH.
Ash is being supported by Jaime and Patricia of Two Chicks on Books. Be sure to check out their site for their reviews of The Iron Knight, the soon-to-be-released book from Ash’s perspective, to learn a little more about Ash – spoiler-free.
Patch is being supported by Momo of Books Over Boys. Be sure to check out her defense on The YA Sisterhood’s blog, linked above.
Why I support Ash?
I’ve always been a fan of the brooding, sexy, powerful prince of Faerie. My loyalty for this boy never wavered. I never shifted loyalties to side with the tricky, clever, charming Puck who did everything he could to capture Meghan’s heart.
So, my crush on this boy has not simply come about due to the tournament or to support some of my favorite bloggers.
Ash has been crush-worthy from the start. His icy exterior hides a fiery personality and a passionate heart. And you better believe his heat and his fire could melt all the snow that blankets the Winter Court.
Ash is brave, and strong, and self-sacrificing. He is fierce and dangerous and all kinds of sexy. He is no angel – and he’s no Tod – but he is an incredibly crush-worthy boy and deserves the win in his match today.
What do I think about Patch?
I have a love-hate relationship with Patch. Oh how tumultous my love affair with Patch has been. Talk about a rocky path he’s on. His standoffish, bad boy behavior both entices and repels me. Every time I think he has no hope of redemption, he manages to redeem himself.
He is not perfect. He is oh so flawed. Which is one of the things I love about him. But his actions have consequences. And, bad boy that he is, he doesn’t quite measure up when compared to the positive behavior Ash has exhibited for the girl he reluctantly grew to love.
Be sure to stop by The YA Sisterhood’s blog. Voting is open until 8:00 a.m. Central time in the U.S. on Thursday and be sure to…
